The per-GB cost decreases as you buy larger plans. A 1GB plan might cost $4.50/GB, while a 10GB plan drops to $2.60/GB. Our recommendation: buy slightly more than you think you'll need. It's cheaper per-GB and avoids the hassle of topping up mid-trip.

Airalo frequently runs promotions (10-15% off) through their app and email list. They also have a referral program that gives both parties $3 in credits. If you're planning multiple trips, these savings add up quickly.

With 200+ countries and regions, Airalo has the broadest coverage of any eSIM provider. This includes destinations that competitors skip — think smaller Caribbean islands, African nations, and Central Asian countries.

Network quality varies because Airalo partners with different local carriers in each country. In popular destinations like Japan (NTT Docomo), Thailand (AIS/DTAC), and most of Europe, speeds are excellent — typically 20-80 Mbps on 4G. In less developed markets, expect more variable performance.

5G is available in select countries but not universally. Check the plan details before purchasing if 5G matters to you. Most travelers won't notice the difference for typical phone usage.

The Airalo app (iOS and Android) is the best in the eSIM space. The purchase flow is clean: select country → pick plan → pay → scan QR code. The whole process takes 2-3 minutes.

One standout feature is the ability to install your eSIM before your trip starts. You can purchase and install days in advance, then activate when you land. The app also supports multiple eSIM profiles, so frequent travelers can keep profiles for their regular destinations.
